Students Working to Advance Technology
Who we are?We are a group of 8th graders at Twin/Hidden Oaks Middle School that help teachers and students better understand technology and how to use it. We also help teachers and students problems solve any issues that they may have with technology.
|
What Do we do?As briefly explained in the paragraph to the left, we help students and teachers with technology. Every day a group of two people go in to the media center and either help with iPad problems or work on the iPad carts and Chrome Book carts. When we go through the carts we do things like update software, update apps, make sure everything is plugged in, and change settings. We also help teachers if they are having trouble with technology, like computers, iPads, and smart boards.

iPad summer rollouts
At our school, we have an iPad program. The basics of it is when you hit 8th grade, you get a school issued iPad if you fill put the necessary information. How do we hand them out you ask? Sorcery... Just kidding, roll outs. Roll outs take place during the summer before school. The first one was towards the end of August and they also take place on back-to-school night.
|
Roll outs look like this. When you walk in to either the Twin Oaks or Hidden Oaks library/media center, one of the SWAT kids will just simply hand you an iPad. You then would proceed to a table with instructions on them. After this you do have to set it up and fill out an exit form to let us know more information about the iPad you have. Once we confirm students have filled out this form, they get a charger and then they can leave.

when we work?
Every school day, except the one day a week we have second step curriculum (Tuesdays for Hidden Oaks and Wednesdays for Twin Oaks). When you walk in to either Twin Oaks' library, or Hidden Oaks' library, you will most likely find two SWAT members sitting at the special table or doing work with the iPad and Chromebook carts. Don't worry, on the days we go in to work it is during a prime time, which is basically homework time to work. So we are not missing any classes.
projects we do
When we walk into the media center, Ms. Fay or Mrs. Zurn tell us what we are going to be doing today. It ranges from updating iPads, reorganizing iPads, working on computers, helping with iPad cleanouts during Primetime, working on and updating this website, and just sitting at the special table helping people with technology issues.
